Google has opened applications for its 2025 Startup Accelerator Africa program. The three-month hybrid initiative aims to support early-stage African startups that leverage AI to solve critical local challenges. The program is open to Seed to Series A startups with a live product, at least one founder of African descent, and a strong focus on responsible AI development.
Successful applicants will receive tailored technical mentorship, up to $350,000 in Google Cloud credits, and access to a global network of investors and partners. Participants will also benefit from workshops covering technology, strategy, leadership, and AI implementation. Google emphasizes that empowering local innovators is crucial to unlocking the continent’s potential.
Since 2018, the program has backed 140 startups from 17 countries, helping them raise over $300 million and create more than 3,000 jobs. The accelerator has already worked with companies like Crop2Cash, an agritech startup that simplifies agriculture and empowers farmers with digital tools.
Opening applications for AI startups
Crop2Cash helps bridge the gap between informal agricultural communities and formal economic structures. It enables farmers to build digital identities for access to credit and traceable payments. The goal of the 2025 Startup Accelerator Africa is to help startups develop solutions for various issues ranging from farming to fintech, healthcare, and education.
Google believes that AI is crucial in empowering African innovators to enact significant changes and unlock new possibilities. To qualify, startups must be based in Africa and have at least one founder from Africa. They must demonstrate a clear product-market fit and potential for scaling.
The startup must also have an AI-first approach or meaningfully integrate AI into their operations. Applications are now open for interested startups. For more information and to apply, visit the Google for Startups website.
