The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has facilitated over ₹38,500 crore transactions for 30,000 startups. According to a statement from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, this reinforces GeM’s position as a catalyst in India’s innovation ecosystem. GeM is a Section 8 company under the Department of Commerce.

It procures goods and services for central ministries, state departments, PSEs, and autonomous bodies. The platform benefits government buyers, local entrepreneurs, startups, and small businesses. GeM has enabled startups to fulfill orders transparently.
Women entrepreneurs make up 8 percent of GeM’s total seller base. The portal has registered 1,77,786 Udyam-verified women micro and small enterprises (MSE).

Startup Mahakumbh fosters innovation ecosystem
These enterprises have fulfilled orders worth over ₹46,615 crore. During the recent Startup Maha Kumbh, GeM responded to over 2,500 startup queries. It facilitated 1,000 startup registrations and cataloging.

GeM hosted over 1,500 interactive sessions, including mentoring and group engagements focused on onboarding and skilling. During the event, GeM engaged with startups, investors, policymakers, and industry leaders as a strategic partner. Its participation reflected efforts to support the growth of Indian startups by facilitating access to government markets and encouraging new opportunities.

The event featured pavilions celebrating India’s strength in various tech sectors. Shri Ajay Bhadoo, CEO of GeM, said, “Let’s work together and unlock the true potential of public procurement in driving startup growth, inclusive development, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.” His keynote emphasized the transformative potential of platforms like GeM in scaling innovative homegrown solutions and supporting startups with policy-driven opportunities.
