The Social Security Administration (SSA) is implementing significant changes for beneficiaries, particularly those aged 62 as of March 26, 2025. One notable update is the increase in Social Security payments due to the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). In 2025, the SSA has applied the COLA to monthly payments, providing essential financial relief to millions of retirees.
This increase officially took effect in January 2025, with each subsequent monthly payment reflecting the adjustment. The COLA helps beneficiaries maintain their purchasing power amid rising inflation. For 62-year-old retirees, the March payment includes a 2.5% COLA increase, consistent with the adjustments made in the previous two months.
The COLA-adjusted payments will be delivered according to the regular Social Security schedule. In March, beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of any month will receive their payment on March 26, 2025.

According to SSA estimates, there will be no action required from recipients to receive the increased payment. It’s also important to highlight that those who wait to retire at full retirement age (67) or later can receive significantly higher benefits, as the SSA rewards delayed retirement with increased monthly checks. Beyond the COLA increase, other updates introduced in 2025 continue to affect beneficiaries.
The taxable earnings cap has increased for those still working, and full retirement age adjustments remain in place for future retirees. These changes reflect ongoing efforts to preserve the sustainability of the Social Security program and provide greater economic security to Americans as they age. As the March payment approaches, retirees can expect another enhanced deposit, a continuation of the larger monthly checks first introduced in January.
For those turning 62 or already retired, these updates reinforce the importance of staying informed about the latest policy shifts impacting retirement income. The SSA encourages beneficiaries to keep their contact information up to date to ensure they receive all relevant updates and notifications regarding their Social Security benefits.
