Millions of Social Security recipients will receive their monthly checks for February today. Beneficiaries born between the 11th and the 20th of their birth month will receive their regular payment from the Social Security Administration on Feb. 19.

The Social Security payment schedule for regular checks follows three waves, all occurring on Wednesdays, or on a Tuesday if a Wednesday is a federal holiday. The distribution of payments is divided into three waves based on the birth dates of recipients. The second wave of payments, issued today, covers those born from the 11th to the 20th of any month.

The first wave was sent out on Feb. 12 to individuals born on the 1st through the 10th of a month.

The third and final wave for February will be sent out on Feb. 26 to those born from the 21st to the 31st of a month. Social Security payments are calculated based on the earnings throughout a retiree’s life.

Although there are no income limits, the amount each check is worth depends on the age at which a person retires. Citizens are eligible for Social Security starting at 62 years old but can increase their benefits by delaying retirement. For instance, those who retire at 67 receive a maximum check of $4,018, retiring at 62 yields up to $2,831, and those who wait until 70 can receive up to $5,108 per month.

These monthly Social Security payments are distinct from other checks issued by the Social Security Administration, such as disability insurance or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which follow a different schedule. SSI payments are generally sent at the beginning of each month to recipients with debilitating disabilities that impact their income. For more information on Social Security benefits and the payment schedule, recipients are encouraged to contact the Social Security Administration or visit their official website.
