UF Health and UnitedHealthcare have reached a new multi-year agreement after months of negotiations. The deal will restore network access to UF Health’s hospitals, facilities, and physicians for those enrolled in UnitedHealthcare employer-sponsored commercial plans and the Community Plan of Florida (Medicaid) starting May 5. Stephen J.

Motew, president and system CEO of the UF Health clinical enterprise, expressed gratitude for the community’s patience and his team’s hard work. “This new agreement provides thousands of patients continuous access to premier compassionate, academic-quality health care throughout Northeast, North Central, and Central Florida,” he said in a press release. Marvin Dewar, CEO and chief medical officer of UF Health Physicians, noted that the contract offers acceptable terms and relief from administrative obstacles for UF Health physicians and caregivers.

UF Health restores network access

Since Sept. 1, 2024, patients have been unable to access in-network benefits at UF Health due to a dispute over contract terms.

A proposal in November reportedly demanded a more than 20% price hike in the first year of the contract for employer-sponsored commercial plans. The terms of the new agreement have not been disclosed. In November, Dewar stated that UF Health was committed to reaching a fair and sustainable agreement to best serve their patients and communities.

The resolution brings relief to thousands of patients who were left uncertain during the negotiations, ensuring they will continue to receive quality care from UF Health facilities.
